The portion sizes are great for the price and the food is VERY flavorful! If you are wanting to taste authentic Jamaican food without having to buy a flight, then this is your stop .
There seems to be 2 listings for Mi Irie, so I'm including our review on both - just in case... We were passing through on our way home from vacation and needed to charge at the nearby Sam's club. Stopped for late lunch and were pleasantly surprised to find a diverse offering of restaurants nearby. We chose Jamaican because at home our favorite place closed (chef/owners retired) and we haven't found anything that compares and haven't had it in about a year. We are glad we did. Although the pictures are not much to go by, the flavor was great. We had oxtail, brown stewed chicken, and jerk chicken. Hubby wanted goat curry but they were out (shipment was not coming until later in the evening). The rice & peas was seasoned well, a little mushy, but all in all good. The cabbage was good - I prefer a little onion, which if it was in there, you could not taste it. The oxtail and stewed chicken were delicious. The jerk chicken was very savory and the sauce was thick and clung to the chicken pieces. We prefer our jerk seasoning to be spicier/hotter, but it had a wonderful umami flavor. Service was great, too. We were eating at a very off hour so we almost had the dining room to ourselves. There were several to-go orders that came and went while we were relaxing and enjoying our meals.
Loved their food! The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu as I have food allergies. You have to get the plantains!!
So I had the large oxtails entree. The oxtails and sauce were delicious along with rice & peas, cabbage,& plantains. Although I do recommend you guys give bigger oxtail pieces. Some of my oxtails were baby oxtails..& I eat oxtails all the time so I know the difference. Service was good and done in a timely manner. It's a divey hole in the wall in Greenville. I live in NYC so I didn't expect to find such delicious Caribbean food in SC. Also the rum punch was perfect...
This place has got some delicious very authentic Jamaican cuisine. I am pretty obsessed with the jerk lamb, which comes with all the sides, including plantains cabbage and beans and rice. My hubby always gets the oxtails, which has just the right amount of fat to keep it tasty, and it's so tender, it falls right off the bone.
